This professional qualification will give you the knowledge, techniques and practical skills you need to treat paying clients. Your training and certification will allow you to conduct assessment, as well as apply pre-post and maintenance treatments. You’ll learn the theory behind massage treatment application, including anatomy and physiology, as well as professional practice knowledge that’ll give you the confidence to work for yourself. It’ll also give you the basic qualification needed to progress onto injury treatment and further specialist training.
You don’t need any formal qualifications for this course, however a Level 2 qualification is preferable, as is a genuine interest in the subject.
What will I learn?
You’ll learn how to assess clients’ needs, apply suitable sports massage techniques and understand the principles of wellness and how the sports massage therapist contributes to this.
You’ll study five units:
- Anatomy and physiology for sports massage
- Principles of health and fitness
- Understand the principles of soft tissue dysfunction
- Professional practice in sports massage
- Sports massage treatment
You’ll be assessed through a combination of portfolio evidence, practical tasks, knowledge and understanding tasks and an online task. You’ll also need to complete 50 hours of treatments outside of your teaching timetable.
Career and progression
If you complete the Extended Diploma, you can progress to university or move on to employment or an apprenticeship in coaching or personal training.
