Congratulations to our Travel and Tourism students for raising £390 by walking 10km around the New Forest to raise money for charity. Eva and Kai planned and managed the event as part of their Travel and Tourism course at Totton College to support The New Forest Trust, a charity working to conserve and protect The New Forest, home to over 1,000 ancient trees and 3,000 free-roaming ponies.
Eva and Kai chose to raise money for The New Forest Trust, a cause they are both passionate about. The charity helps to protect wildlife in the forest, ensuring they have space, food and are safe from road traffic. The New Forest Trust also perform essential conservation work to preserve the ancient forest for future generations.
Eva and Kai managed every aspect of the event, from designing marketing materials including posters, flyers, and a promotional video to raise awareness within the college, local community and on social media. They also conducted a thorough risk assessment to identify potential issues and carefully planned the walk route and location. Reflecting on the event, Eva and Kai shared: “We feel our event was very successful, it was a lovely, relaxing walk through the New Forest, and it felt good to be raising money for charity.” This event not only contributed to the New Forest Trust, but it also allowed the students to develop their event planning and, communication skills, which are both valuable skills in the Travel and Tourism Industry.
Our Travel & Tourism course encourages students to get involved in projects which encourage experiential learning. Totton College takes pride in offering tailored learning experiences that prepare students for success in their future careers.
