Level 2 Science Technical Diploma qualification, or 5 GCSEs including Science at grade 4 (C) or above, as well as minimum GCSE grade 4 (C) in maths and grade 3 (D) in English.
You will develop scientific knowledge and skills enabling you to understand, assess and suggest solutions to real-world medical problems and challenges. The course curriculum places emphasis on the development of good practical skills necessary to monitor health and disease, and will include a medical case study. Key units include:
- Human health and disease
- Physiological measurement techniques
- Medical science research methods
- Medicines and treatment of disease
- Clinical laboratory techniques
- Medical case study
All Totton College students have the benefit of undertaking at least 60 hours of relevant work experience to support their studies, gain experience and potentially develop contacts with future employers. Our careers team is available to help students secure work placements.
You will be assessed through written and practical assignments, reports, presentations and exams.
There will be enrichment opportunities including guest speakers and involvement in local projects related to work experience.
Where it could take you
This qualification bridges the gap between pure science, sports therapy and healthcare provision. Students are likely to progress on to an apprenticeship or employment in a career area such as medical research or sports therapy, or may continue in higher education after which job prospects could include becoming a nurse or physiotherapist.
