During this course you will gain an insight about the industry; learn useful basic skills and relevant background knowledge, however, successful completion of this qualification does not imply occupational competence.
You will learn basic skills in a number of treatment and service areas and whilst these skills do not need to be demonstrated on real, paying clients, in a realistic working environment, under commercial pressures and within commercially acceptable service times, learners will be expected to work on their confidence in order to meet such standards.
What will I learn?
A range of units to develop an understanding of the Hair & Beauty Sector including comparisons in the types of businesses and the clients each attract, understanding the importance of Personal Presentation in a salon environment and working in a team. Practical units include:
Hairdressing: Shampoo & Condition hair, Plaiting, Styling, Colouring hair using temporary colour.
Beauty Therapy: Skin Care, Nail & Hand Care, Basic Make Up application,
Extra-curricular activities and community projects will be included.
A kit and a uniform will need to be purchased. Ask for details.
How will I be assessed?
The emphasis is on ‘learning by doing’. Students will complete a number of tasks and/or tests to show their attainment of practical skills and underpinning knowledge. These will be assessed through practical observation and written assignments.
What can I do next?
Progress onto Level 2 Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy or Level 2 Hair & Beauty combined if a grade C is achieved in English & Maths.
