Learners completing an apprenticeship will undertake roles such as junior beauty therapist, manicurist or skin care and makeup consultant (Intermediate Level). You will learn all of the skill and knowledge to become a Junior Therapist and to prepare for progression to become a Therapist.
We work with employers to help young people gain the right skills through qualifications, apprenticeships and training programmes. These apprenticeships are for you if you want to progress into a job in the beauty industry. You will work as a junior beauty therapist, carrying out treatments including waxing, manicure, pedicure, facials and make-up activities as well as assisting with spa operations.
In order to achieve this qualification within the 18-month timescale, a minimum of 30 working hours per week should be achieved.
The qualification may be lengthened should the working hours full below this.

Students do not pay any tuition costs as these are covered by the employer.
What will I learn?
This course will deliver 8 mandatory units, including:
Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce the risk to health and safety
- Promote additional services or products to client
- Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
- Provide facial skin care treatment
- Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and lashes
- Carry out waxing services
- Provide manicure services
- Provide pedicure services
You will also select a number of optional units, which may include:
- Fulfil salon reception duties
- Carry out ear piercing
- Provide make-up services
- Enhance appearance using skin camouflage
- Assist with spa operations
- Provide Threading Services
How will I learn?
This qualification is made up of a total of 54 credits.
45 credits make up the mandatory units.
Further 9 credits to be selected from the 6 optional units.
You will be assessed by:-
Creating a portfolio of course work/ evidence reviewed by an assessor and qualified by an IQA
Observations made by an assessor
N.B – 20% of the training must be off the job training – Classification of elements included into the 20% off the job training is available on request
Much of the training will be undertaken ‘on the job’, supported by regular visits from a qualified assessor. The Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship is a 12-18 month programme, with apprentices attending college 1 day per week to study for the knowledge element.
Ideally, the apprentice will have achieved grades 9 – 4 (A* – C) in Maths & English GCSE (or equivalent), however, we can provide support to obtain this level of qualification through functional skills training.
Each Apprentice will be required to supply their own equipment – Kit List available on request
