Work Skills (Foundation Studies)
Duration: 1 Year
This course is designed to help you develop the skills you will need to get a job and when you have a job. We will help you with thinking about the
type of work you would like and developing the skills you will need. You will have the opportunity to have more work tasters and where possible work experience during the year. Our Opportunities Adviser will work with you on planning what you would like to do next.
About the course
This is a one year course. On this course you will work towards the BTEC Entry Level 3 Diploma in Vocational Studies.
You will develop the skills you will need when you have a job. You will study:
Skills for work - Where to work and how to apply for a job and the job search process.
You will have an opportunity to build on your numeracy, literacy and ICT skills.
You will also be able to have vocational tasters in up to 6 vocational areas of your choice from:
Horticulture, Farm Animal Care, Hospitality, Construction, IT for Business, Creative Media ,Sport and Active Leisure or Travel and Tourism
You will have support from a Supported Employment Agency to help with real work tasters and help you with getting a job.
If you are over 19 fees will be charged.
How is the course assessed?
Flexibly according to your individual needs through continuous assessment, building portfolios of evidence and some short tests.
There are no qualification entry requirements for this course. You will need to come for an interview and an informal assessment to make sure that the course meets your needs. Most students are likely to have been on the Towards Work course or similar at another college.
By the end of this course we expect that you will be ready to go to work. This may be independent work, supported employment or voluntary work.
