This course will give you the advanced skills required for you to build a career in the music industry. You’ll develop your experience of performing and producing, create your own portfolio of work and gain the confidence and skills required for your career. You’ll have the opportunity to join the college band and perform at local gigs in and around Totton and Southampton.

Funding and bursaries

Advanced Learner Loans are available for students who are aged 19 or over. Repayments do not begin until the course is completed and you are earning £25,000 or over. Eligible learners will be enrolling on a level 3 or above course and are a UK or EU national. For further information, visit gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan.

Entry requirements

At least four GCSEs at grade 4 or above, or a Level 2 qualification in Music or another creative sector. The ability to play an instrument or sing, or some experience with live sound or computer-based music production is needed. You do not need to have studied Music at GCSE. Learners will be required to audition at interview stage.

You’ll be assessed through a portfolio of practical assessment and written work.

Enrichment Opportunities

You’ll have access to the Music Academy’s recording studios to take advantage of additional enrichment opportunities, such as getting involved in local community and charity events.
Guest speakers and trips are regularly arranged, and you’ll also get the chance to record at music venues including the Wedgewood Rooms, Talking Heads and Hanger Farm Arts Centre.

Career and Progression

With the Extended Diploma you can progress to university to further your knowledge and skills. Alternatively, you can start your career as a music technician in an exciting range of different roles.
