Totton College have been working in partnership with Roke Manor in Romsey to support them in recruiting and developing a highly skilled workforce. Poppy, Level 3 Business Administration Apprentice at Roke Manor has progressed well, beginning her career as an apprentice and is now a permanent member of staff. Mandy Freely, Poppy’s mentor at Roke, has expressed her thoughts towards apprenticeships and how crucial they are to organisations.

“Apprenticeships are an important role within businesses, they support growth, succession planning, and are essential for introducing and moulding skills to fill gaps, and they provide excellent progression opportunities and job retention that in turn supports future earning potential.”

Poppy joined the company in 2017 to start a Level 2 Business Administration Apprenticeship.  Once completed, she decided to progress to Level 3 Business Administrator.  As part of her apprenticeship, Poppy underwent training to enable her to support in other departments within the business to cover part time staff and holidays. This involved understanding how different departments operate and learning to use new systems. As a permanent member of staff, Poppy knows the skills that she has learnt from the apprenticeship will help her with completing daily administration tasks and developing her role within the team and company. The apprenticeship has helped her become more confident as her understanding of the role and the background to administration grew. This allowed her to integrate across the business and work more effectively within the teams and across departments.

Poppy is now considering her next progression from her apprenticeship and how she can develop to advanced roles within Business Services as a whole.”
