Seventeen-year-old Evie Proctor from Southampton has just been awarded Apprentice of the Year, Hampshire at the prestigious Salon Awards in London.

Evie is currently studying for a Level 2 Hair Professional Apprentice at Totton College and has been an apprentice since September 2022, at Rebecca H Salons, learning and improving her hairdressing skills.

Evie’s love for hairdressing comes from going with her Nana to a hairdressing salon and loving the friendly environment and culture. Unfortunately, Evie’s Nana passed away just before the start of her apprenticeship and she found it hard to stay focused at the start, but Evie pushed through to make her time there a success.

Evie says: “I struggled in school and eventually went on to be home schooled so I have always been nervous to jump into anything related to the education system as fear of failing or not getting the grades that I needed. But what I have learnt while working as an apprentice is that when you love something and feel passionate about it you feel you want to know everything there is to learn.”

Since 2017, the Salon Awards have been a prestigious event for the hair and beauty industry regularly celebrating the outstanding talent and contributions of the hair and beauty stylists. They are the only UK hair industry awards where hair professionals can compete at a local level in their field of expertise.

Totton College is recruiting apprentices and to work with employers offering Level 2 Hairdressing Professional and Level 3 Advanced and Creative Hairdressing. Find out more about our apprenticeships.
