Students raise £1,723 for Friends of PICU and Sport Relief!

Pedalling for Pounds 2

Our Uniformed Public Services and Sport students took part in a spectacular 24-hour charity cycle challenge at a Pedalling for Pounds 2 event, and raised a spectacular total of £1,723 for two charities, Friends of PICU which supports Southampton Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and Sport Relief.

As part of their Uniformed Public Services and Sport course, our students were challenged to come up with a fitness-inspired charity event. With lecturers overseeing the event, the students settled on a 24-hour charity cycle challenge.

In preparation for the cycle, our students trained hard for months, participating in weekly Spinning sessions at the nearby Totton fitness centre, supported by staff members across the curriculum who also took part in these sessions.

The cycle took place on 18-19 April, in Beaulieu, New Forest during the day and continued through the night at Totton College on static bikes, donated by Totton Health and Leisure Centre. The challenge was taken on by three separate teams, in a relay.

We would like to give a special thank you to all who donated and supported our students through this journey.

Well done to all our students for raising the total amount of £1,723. Friends of PICU will be using the money raised to purchase new equipment for the hospital.
