After your apprenticeship
What’s next?
Completing your apprenticeship is a significant achievement – and a stepping stone to a wealth of opportunities. Now you have hands-on experience, fresh knowledge, and a nationally recognised qualification, you’re well-placed to decide what comes next.
So, where to from here? Let’s explore your options.
Advance your studies
From Level 2 to Level 3
If you’ve successfully completed a Level 2 apprenticeship, it’s a natural next step to move on to Level 3.
This next level offers a deeper dive into your chosen subject area. You’ll tackle more complex tasks, gain detailed insights, and hone more advanced skills, making you even better prepared for the world of work or further study.
From Level 3 to Degree Apprenticeship
After wrapping up your Level 3 apprenticeship, you’re in a strong position to consider higher education. A Degree Apprenticeship is a fantastic option that combines university-level study with hands-on work experience.
Not only will you earn while you learn, but you’ll also come out with a full bachelor’s or master’s degree, depending on the programme, without the typical student debt. Plus, with the practical knowledge you’ve already gained from your apprenticeship, you’ll have a distinct advantage in these higher-level programs.
Remember, each step up in your education makes you more attractive to potential employers and broadens your career opportunities.
Join the workforce
For many apprentices, the transition to employment is easy because the company where you trained has a position waiting for you. If this happens, it’s a testament to your hard work and their belief in your capabilities.
Alternatively, you could find a job at another company. The skills you’ve gained and your qualification make you a valuable asset to other employers in your sector.

“Almost all learners go on to higher-level courses in education or move into sustained employment. Learners, for whom the provider receives high-needs funding, go on to higher-level study programmes or places at university. Most apprentices are employed following the completion of their apprenticeship and go on to study for higher-level qualifications.”
Ofsted inspection March 2019.
