This course will introduce you to a range of disciplines in the creative industries including TV and film production, animation, photography, video game development, graphic design and motion graphics. Packed with practical applications, you will develop the skills and experience you need to embark on a career in the exciting world of digital media. As part of your course, you will also have the opportunity to work with real clients and receive expert advice from Totton College alumni and professionals working in the industry.

Funding and bursaries

Advanced Learner Loans are available for students who are aged 19 or over. Repayments do not begin until the course is completed and you are earning £25,000 or over. Entry requirements

At least three GCSEs at grade 3, or a Merit or Distinction at Level 1, plus an interest in media (film, photography, graphics and video games).

What will I learn?

This course will develop students who want to work in the publishing, game development, media, television and film industries. You will:

Enhance your understanding of media practices

Develop your skills with specialist software packages including InDesign, Photoshop and Premier Pro and many more

Learn about visual production through photography and film editing

Create your own portfolio of media work

Work Experience

You’ll have the chance to do at least 60 hours of relevant work experience to support your studies, gain experience and potentially develop contacts with future employers. Our careers team is available to help you secure work placements.

Assessment

You’ll be assessed through a combination of coursework, practical tasks and multiple choice examinations.

Enrichment Opportunities

There are a variety of enrichment opportunities on offer throughout the year.

Career and Progression

Completion of the course will allow you to progress to a Level 3 course in Digital Media (this could be at a different college or learning institution). Other options will allow you to explore employment through an apprenticeship within the digital media industry.
