National Apprenticeship Week

We are proud to have been a part of National Apprenticeship Week, earlier on this year.

As part of the activities for National Apprenticeships Week, the week started with our beauty students having the opportunity to meet a former apprentice, who now runs her own successful business.

Rebecca Barnes who is now the owner of Southampton salon, The Organic Hair Lounge.

Rebecca shared her own inspiring story with the students, gave careers advice based on her own experience and spoke passionately about the benefits of apprenticeships.

She said “I was lucky enough to do an apprenticeship, with a very inspirational employer who gave me the opportunity and experience I needed to develop my skills. With my scissors in tow, I was able to travel the world before settling back in the UK and opening my own salon”.

Other activities during the week included information stands, workshops, clogs competition around the college and more.

We currently work with more than 100 employers and are the first college in the region to offer The Hair Professional: a new apprenticeship standard that will eventually replace the previous framework.

A big thank you to Rebecca for kick starting our Apprenticeship Week.
