If you want to pursue creative studies at a higher level of academic study or start your career in the creative sector, this course will provide you with the technical skills and knowledge you need to progress.

Covering everything from drawing, painting, sculpting, illustration and photography, this course will enable you to develop your own visual language, as well as explore and analyse the work of other artists.

You can expect to be introduced to new and exciting ways of working and you’ll get the chance to work on a large scale with some projects, which are challenging but exciting.

During the latter part of the course, you’ll have the opportunity to specialise in areas of particular interest through a number of optional units.

Funding and bursaries

Advanced Learner Loans are available for students who are aged 19 or over. Repayments do not begin until the course is completed and you are earning £25,000 or over. Entry requirements

A good standard of skill, evidenced in a portfolio. At least four GCSEs at grade 4 (grade C) or above ideally, including Art or BTEC Art & Design at Merit or equivalent.

You’ll be assessed at the end of each unit and graded pass, merit or distinction. There are no external examinations in this qualification.

Enrichment Opportunities

You’ll get the opportunity to take part in the ARTiculation Workshop and to work with external organisations. You’ll also get the chance to go on a residential trip to London, and visit local galleries and exhibitions.

Career and Progression

You can continue onto a three-year degree course in a specialist area of art and design or go on to employment in an art and design-related field. We’ll support you with instruction and guidance for your future career.
