Totton College tutor wins Ufology award

Craig Roberts, a psychology tutor and Ufology expert at Totton College, has been awarded UFO Publication of the Year for a journal published at the College.

The European Journal of UFO and Abduction Studies (EJUFOAS) was awarded the Spanish Cuardenos de Ufologia Prize for 2002. Craig has added this accolade to a Studie des Monats prize from the Forum Parawissenschaften, for another published paper in EJUFOAS.

Craig's interest in ufology took off when he researched the role of psychology in ufology for his degree. Seven years on Craig is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the ufology journal. EJUFOAS was launched in February 1999 and the first edition published in September the same year. Two editions are published a year with subscriptions from as far afield as Europe, America, Australia and the Far East.

Craig is delighted that his journal is at the forefront of ufological research.

"Our award has been given by Fundacion Anomalia - a very prestigious UFO group in Spain, and I'm thrilled to receive such an honour. EJUFOAS has gone from strength to strength since its first edition in September 1999. It's great to know that the academic research reports into the phenomenon have been recognised at this level," he commented.

Not only does Craig academically research the phenomenon; he also teaches it. At Totton College, he has created the only educationally recognized course in ufology in the UK where students can study four modules up to the standard of A-Level. The UFO Studies course takes two years to complete and takes a comprehensive look at all angles of ufology. It is currently available to 6th Form students and adult learners at the College. Some of Craig's students have already formed a research group who submit their intriguing findings to the journal's panel.

This success has led him to lecture at the Association for the Teaching of Psychology and British Psychological Society Conferences on the psychological aspects of ufology.
