Scholarships

The College has a number of scholarship schemes that aim to support students in their studies and broader education. The scholarships are designed to help young people develop their talents reach their full potential. This section provides more detailed information about some of those scholarship schemes.

Sports Awards

Financial support for outstanding sports people

For outstanding athletes, Totton offers a chance to make the very best of your sporting and academic abilities through our Sports Awards, with scholarships of £500 per year.

This financial support will enable you to pay for your specialised equipment, exercise, dietary and training needs. What's more, it means you can develop your skills in an environment providing high quality teams, coaching and competitions - successful applicants will be offered a guaranteed place at the college up to two years in advance of admission; and, once you are at the college and working hard to maximise your potential, the College pays back that effort by working hard to seek corporate sponsorship to support you into the future.

Students who wish to be considered will need to:

  • Satisfy the college entrance requirements
  • Have represented their country at senior or junior level or show the potential to do so whilst at college
  • Apply to the college in the normal way but complete a supplementary application form for the scholarship
  • Receive an endorsement from a relevant sports organisation

If you are interested please contact us for a Sports Scholarship Application Form. The closing date for scholarship applications is 1 May. Scholarships will not be awarded until November of your first year.

Wilf Wright Scholarship Awards

The Wilf Wright Scholarship scheme aims to help talented young people reach their full potential through life-enhancing and lifechanging projects. Where a student finds an opportunity that will make a real difference to themselves or others, the Scholarship encourages them to fundraise and organise to meet the challenge, tackling their dreams head-on – from projects as diverse as Dance Schools, to voluntary work in the developing world. In return, the Scholarship programme recognises the student’s efforts by providing a financial reward to help them reach their dreams – anything from £50 to £1000.

Projects which have received Wilf Wright Scholarship Awards include:

  • Care and Conservation in PeruLaban Summer School – Dance and
  • Choreography
  • YMCA Outdoor Education Centre, Ohio USA
  • Swimming and Athletics National Championships, Loughborough University

What unites each and every student who receives a Wilf Wright Scholarship is a desire to improve themselves or the wider world, and the energy and dedication to follow their goals to completion. Students not only develop as people, but also acquire the skills, motivation, knowledge and experience to add significant value to their current studies or their higher education or employment ambitions. Awards are open to all full-time or substantial part-time students at Totton College.

Why Totton?

Anna Petri - Germany

Studying: A2 French, AS Photography, English Language & Literature, GCSE Spanish

At Totton I could do the combination of courses I wanted to do and received a lot of help and advice even though I applied from Germany and could not actually visit the college beforehand. The atmosphere here at Totton College is great and I find my teachers easy to talk to.

At the moment I am studying English Language and Literature, French, Spanish and Photography and I am hoping to study French and Spanish at university. When I first started studying here, I didn't know what to do after college and if I should continue education. My teachers and information provided by the college have helped me decide how to continue and selected possible university and courses for me. Overall the staff have been great helping me settling into college.
