An Exhibition of Coloured Pencil Drawings
20 - 31 August 2005 by Karen Coulson
As part of Hampshire Artists Open Studios 2005, Karen will be exhibiting her work at the new Hanger Farm Arts Centre in West Totton.
A former art college student, Karen's favourite medium is coloured pencils and she is a member of the UK Coloured Pencil Society (UKCPS). Her recent achievements include being a finalist in the PAWS (Paint a Wildlife Subject) competition in 2001, 2002 & 2003 and exhibiting at Marwell Zoo Art Society summer exhibition 2004. In 2005 she was awarded first prize in the UKCPS exhibition in Cumberland.
Although the main focus of her work has been on wild and domestic animals, Karen has recently produced drawings of local scenes of her home town of Romsey, where she has lived since 1976.
The exhibition at Hanger Farm will highlight Karen's work over the past five years. Her attention to detail and love of animals is evident in her beautifully executed studies. Karen hopes to encourage others to share her enthusiasm for her subject and would like to set up a local members' group to help promote coloured pencils as a fine art medium.
Karen undertakes commissions for pet portraits and wildlife studies and also produces prints and greetings cards.
