Hanger Farm and the Local Community

Photograph of Community Seed Pod SculptureCulture is a powerful agent for building community cohesion. Artistic activities like music, dance and drama offer opportunities for people to come together and participate in community life. Such activity can break down social barriers and generate a sense of pride in a particular area.

Hanger Farm Arts Centre at Totton College recognises its role in creating this cohesion and in acting as an agent for change. With the support of local artists and performance companies as well as students and local residents, this can be achieved to a much greater degree, creating a strong basis for enhancing and developing the area through cultural projects, events and performances.

The West Totton area where Hanger Farm is situated is undergoing a considerable period of change; its current residential plans, due to attract an influx of new residents to the area, in conjunction with its current proximity to existing housing estates will ensure a real community focus for the centre and will form a core part of local regeneration. Having a diverse programme that caters for and embodies the tastes and needs of all cultures and individuals in the local demographic will help to bring about an increased sense of pride amongst the community and we hope will attract more people to use the facility.

Hanger Farm Arts Centre encourages new talent, ideas and contributions. Participation is key.

The programmed arts activities included on this site are not only intended to celebrate and share practices and cultures but to provide a means for interactive consultation with our audience. We hope that your participation and enjoyment will help in identifying and enabling us to build on your hopes and desires for the future of the centre.

Together we can make it not only an outstanding centre for the Arts but a place for Totton to be proud of.
