Secretary of State Congratulates Totton College Learners

Secretary of State Congratulates Totton College LearnersSecretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills and local Member of Parliament took time from his busy schedule to meet Totton College learners at Southampton City Councils Town Depot to hear of their achievements in gaining work based qualifications in Information Technology and Essential Skills. Mr Denham presented successful learners with their certificates to recognise their achievement.

John Hall who works in the parks and recreation department said, “I was very nervous to do any course as I didn’t get on at school, but Stevie (our tutor) was brilliant in supporting me. I have now done my English and Maths and I won’t be stopping there”.

The staff were supported by managers and their Union Learn representatives. One union rep and fellow learner Steve Chivers commented “I really enjoyed my ITQ course with Nina and Tammi, and will continue on to the higher level. What I liked most was the time our tutors spent with us, often staying behind after the lesson had finished until we had grasped it!”

Mr Denham praised the learners for their achievement and the tutors for their contribution to changing people’s lives. He also recognised the Town Depot Training Centre as an exemplar in the Union Learn network.
