Totton College Learners Go Up in the DP World!

Totton College Learners Go Up in the WorldTerminal Operators and Controllers from DP World Southampton’s container terminal have recently completed their ITQ level 2 training through Totton College. This was an innovative joint approach between DP World Southampton and Totton College to up skill the workforce in new technologies. The learning was arranged on site using college laptops to train the learners.

Learners received their certificates from Chris Herbert, Head of Business Development at Totton College, who stated: “This is a terrific achievement by these learners who have used college laptops in a working environment to learn new skills.”

DP World Southampton’s Managing Director, Campbell Mason, also congratulated them on their achievement and spoke of the company wide commitment to training and development.

Steve Ware, Training Manager from DP World’s Institute arranged for college tutors Tammi Dolman and Stephanie Osborne to get a bird’s eye view of operations. Marvin Dewell, one of the students, took them to the top of two of the largest cranes operating at the terminal.

“The training demonstrates our commitment to develop the skills of everyone in the company” said Steve. “This training is relevant as new technology is increasingly being used in all aspects of our operations.”

“We can’t speak highly enough of Tammi and Steph as they worked really hard in the early days to keep us up on track!” said David Lloyd, one of the terminal’s Controllers.
