About the Course

The Paediatric First Aid course is designed to train individuals to provide immediate first aid care for infants and children. This course also includes adult essential skills in basic life support as they differ from the skills of the infant and child.

Course Topics will include: Principles of First Aid, good practice, infants and children, chain of survial, emergency management procedure, care cyle. Scene survey, exposure protection, risk to rescuer, barrier devices. Primary survey and reassessment, clearing the airway, recovery postion, CPR Infant, Childre and Adult, alternative ventilation procedures, introduction to AED's ,choking infant, child and adult. Severe bleeding, shock management. Patient history taking, chief complaint, signs and symptoms, past medical history, physical assessment, head to toe survey. Breathing problems circulatory problems, environmental problems, nervous system problems, other medical problems, other injuries. First Aid Kit, accident reporting

Course Aims

To provide students with first aid skills necessary to manage an infant or child that is not breathing normally is unconscious, bleeding or is ill or injured prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

How is the course assessed?

Students are assessed throughout the course by instructor observation of the essential skills. There is also a summative assessment of knowledge and skills at the end of this course
