Totton College Students take the ASDA Taste Challenge!

Totton College Students take the ASDA Taste Challenge!Students at Totton College had their taste buds put to the test last week, when staff from the ASDA events team challenged them to taste the difference between big named brands and the supermarket’s own-brand products. Students tried a range of products including cream crackers, orange squash and tomato ketchup, to find out if the well-known (and often more expensive) brands really are better. Students also had the opportunity to sample a variety of exotic fruits to get across the message that healthy eating can also be a cheaper option.

The event was part of Money Week, which was organised by the College and supported by The National Skills Academy for Financial Services (NSAFS). Money Week gave all students the opportunity to engage in a range of activities designed to develop their awareness about personal money management.

The week started with students making Money Pledges about how they intend to manage their money better, with all pledges being entered into a mystery prize draw. Other events during the week included the opportunity for students to talk to representatives from Lloyds TSB about personal banking, and ambassadors from Southampton University who gave out invaluable advice on living on a budget. A2 Accounting students created a display and gave out information about which mobile phone and gaming deals were best.
