Totton College's Media department saw it's second Multi-Media Awards take place recently at Harbour Lights Cinema in Ocean Village, Southampton.

Totton College Hosts Esso Maths Challenge 2010

The 2010 ESSO Maths Challenge for Year 10 students from local schools was recently held at Totton College. This annual event – now in its thirteenth year receives £1,000 in sponsorship from the ESSO refinery. Schools from Applemore, Hounsdown, Mountbatten, Romsey and Testwood took part and teachers from the participating schools helped with the running of the event.

Totton College Introduces The New Sixth Form Baccalaureate

Totton College has been given the green light to offer the prestigious Sixth Form Baccalaureate from September 2010. It is one of only nine colleges in England to be approved after a rigorous validation process and the only College in Hampshire. This validation was overseen by the Institute of Education in London (London University) led by Professors Ann Hodgson and Ken Spours. It is also supported by the Sixth Form Colleges Forum in London.

Totton College wins Rock Challenge

On Friday 11th June 2010, Totton College Dance students competed in the Southern Grand Final against ten other Schools and Colleges. Totton impressed the judges with an absolutely stunning, energetic, highly articulate and sophisticated performance and were awarded first place! They also won the prize for the best soundtrack, and picked up the Healthy Lifestyle Award which celebrates the money raised by the students for CLIC Sargeant. So it was a clean sweep for the delighted students, a truly fantastic result!

It’s been a great season for the Totton College Girls Football team this year. Although the 11 a side fixtures suffered greatly due to the weather, Totton College girls finished the 5 a side season as undefeated Winners, beating Brockenhurst into second place on goal difference.

Becoming Hampshire League and County Cup champions hasn't stopped the outstanding season of the Totton College Girls Basketball team from progressing further. A hard fought weekend of competition at the English Basketball Association's National final fours saw them return with bronze medals.

Totton College Girls Basketball team have won the County Cup and the League double, repeating the 2008-9 boys performance. The girls hope to go one better as they travel to the Nottingham Wildcats Arena on Sunday to fight it out with the top four teams in England in the EBBA National Final Fours.

Totton College Footballers Battle Through to the Final

Totton College footballers have completed another successful season by reaching the final of the Hampshire Colleges six-a-side competition. The event is believed to be the oldest six-a-side Tournament in the world where twenty teams of elite footballers battle it out for the trophy.

Quality, Quality, Quality

Totton College is celebrating success by becoming the second Sixth Form College in the country, and the first in the South, to have been awarded the prestigious ‘Training Quality Standard’ (TQS). Totton College is delighted to have gained this, the highest training accolade possible, in recognition of its excellent work with employers. It is built on a firm foundation of previous success as the College remains the only Sixth Form College in the country to have received the esteemed ‘Action for Business Status’.

Totton College in Partnership with The New Forest Rotary Club Raise Funds for the Fight Against Polio

Mr Mike Clarke, Foundation committee chairman of The New Forest Rotary Club received a cheque for £250 from the students of Totton College today. The money was raised on behalf of the Rotary club’s ‘Purple Pinkie Day’ held at the College on the 23rd February 2010. This is a national charity raising funds and awareness of the plight of the children in developing countries, mainly across Asia & Africa, who are not vaccinated against Polio, resulting in many contracting this crippling disease. Once they are immunised the children have their ‘pinkie’ finger dipped in purple ink.

Donations Flood in for ‘Kenyan Adventure’ Project

ExxonMobil have generously donated a substantial amount towards the costs of transport to and from Heathrow airport for those students travelling to Kenya. ExxonMobil representative Francesca Toma visited the college, where Mark Bramwell officially received the £450 cheque on behalf of the students.

Totton College Maths Challenge poster competition was run again this year to advertise the forthcoming Esso Maths Challenge. The competition is held each year and is open to Year 10 pupils from various schools in the area. It will be held on 23rd June 2010 at Totton College.

Totton College Nets Another Win

Totton Girls basketball team recently played Maynards School from Exeter. The team was anticipating a really tough game, so they were ready to play hard! As soon as the game began, it became apparent that Maynards were a strong passing team, so Totton had to play well in defence. Totton’s Jess Brookfield was able to repeatedly drive through the gaps in Maynard’s defence and start the scoring, by the end of the first quarter the score was 19-8, Jess scored a total of 26 points during the game.
