June Aims Higher

June Aims HigherJune Crump has been presented with an award for her outstanding contribution to achieving the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Aimhigher mission. June, who is Student Service Manager at Totton College, was among several nominees attending an award ceremony hosted by Unity Radio celebrating its third Anniversary at the Novotel, Southampton.

Guests at the event included Councillor Brian Parnell, the Mayor of Southampton, Mr Michael Campbell, The High Sheriff of Hampshire, John Denham MP, Minister for the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills, Alan Whitehead MP, Alex Marshall, Chief Constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight, and other representatives from local Universities and Colleges. June was nominated by Aimhigher, the programme which aims to widen participation in higher education for young people from underrepresented communities.

June has devoted time alongside many other duties at Totton College to liaise with Aimhigher officers, ensuring that the target group of young people participates in the full range of Aimhigher activities and events. For five years she has fulfilled this role to an exceptional standard. She has worked with young people and their parents from families with little or no experience of higher education, to ensure that they benefit from all the on campus and outreach opportunities provided by the Aimhigher teams at Southampton Solent University and the University of Southampton.

Richard Kennett, Head of UK Student Recruitment and Outreach at the University of Southampton said, ‘June wants the best for her students and seeks the best opportunities for them. She truly believes in higher education as means to enable mobility and change. She is tireless, working to support her students in her own time, and she takes them to activities at universities in Hampshire and across the country to gain the motivation and understanding of the opportunities available to them for further study’.

All the staff at Totton College recognise June as a fantastic ambassador for the college, she works for her students in and outside of college and are proud the she has deservedly been recognised for her outstanding contribution.
