College Principal Elected to National Office
Mark Bramwell, Principal of Totton College, has been elected National Chairman of the Education Client Forum for the prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects. He will be leading the forum for three years which brings together leading practitioners in architecture and Further Education. They will advise policy makers on good practice in building and design in Education, with a view to improving the quality of learning environment. Their conferences, seminars and research publications are used for reference purposes by the architect profession and related design professions.
Mark Bramwell says, 'It is an honour to be elected and given a vote of confidence by leading people from both professions. Our initial priorities are to produce new guidelines for school and college buildings for the twenty first century in order to influence public policy and to prepare a national conference at RIBA headquarters in Portland Place, West London. The conference will be attended by leading national and international figures in the design world. It will also be used to launch a new national awards scheme, funded by the Learning + Skills Council, for best building and design schemes in England.
We need world class buildings to provide education and skills to match world class standards.'
