National Swimming Success for Totton College Girls

Totton College's Senior Girls Swimming Team won a Bronze Medal in the 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay at the Bazuka National Swimming Championships on 10 February at Crystal Palace. They were competing against 104 teams of top young swimmers in England originally and then against 16 teams in the final. The Totton College girls did themselves proud. Coach Steve Harrison was delighted with the performance of the team and with Sarah Coombe who put up 2 personal best times.

Steve is a former England and Great Britain international swimmer and backstroke record holder, winning a Silver Medal at the 1982 Commonwealth Games. Steve is Chief Coach at the Romsey and Totton Swimming Club and at Totton College he is a full-time PE teacher and the College's swimming coach.

The girls have been training hard since they qualified for the Nationals last November. Vicki is hoping to be selected for the Scotland squad in Sprint Freestyle. They all manage to combine a busy academic life with training and competing. " It's been a pleasure working with the girls through the Totton College Sports Academy", said Steve.
