Digital Graphic Design Foundation Diploma - Level 3 Diploma (Mon & Wed)

ABC Level 3

Summary

This is a one-year course of 15 hours per week, spread over two days.A vital ingredient of this course is the use of industry standard software. It is designed to meet the specific needs of men and women who want to work within the graphics industry. It will maximise your employment prospects or enable you to continue into higher levels of training and education.

About the Course

In the first term you will develop basic knowledge and competence through the following Core Skills Units:Photoshop (Computer image manipulation), Illustrator (Computer drawing), Idea generation sketching and Digital Photography.During the second term you will progress to the Specialist Skills Units:Indesign (Layout design for print), Dreamweaver (Internet page design),Flash (Animation for web) optional, Typographic skills, Visual communication,Working in the digital environment, Professional studiesThere is also the possibility of work shadowing / placement with local employers. These units will lead ultimately to the production of relatively advanced creative graphic design work.By the end of the course you will be expected to demonstrate comprehensively the range of skills and knowledge achieved during the year. To this end, in the third term, you should propose an appropriate major project to be agreed with the course leader.The outcomes of the final major project and other evidence of achievement form a portfolio of work and end of year exhibition organised at the college. * Provide interesting and challenging studies.
* Enhance your opportunities to develop your career in a range of creative graphic posts.

What are the entry requirements?

Prior educational or employment experience is not essential, though desirable. We are keen to recruit people on the basis of their previous life experiences rather than qualifications. Selection for the course is by interview, at which you will also be asked to provide a portfolio of work demonstrating evidence of:
Basic drawing ability, Creative thinking, Communication skills, Commitment to design studies

How is the course assessed?

The work is internally assessed with external moderation at the end of the course. Your progression requires the successful completion of each entire module including both core and specialist units and are graded as:
Referral, Pass, Merit, Distinction. This course leads to the ABC Diploma in Graphic Design.

You will study in an appropriate classroom using industry standard software.

What next?

This course will enable students to progress into employment within the graphics industry at an operator level, or to progress to a more advanced course of study at Art College or university.
