Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector Level 4 Award (PTLLS)

Summary

This course is for those who have an interest in teaching (but not currently doing so), OR who are currently teaching. This course is for those interested in teaching learners aged 16 and above, NOT for those wishing to teach secondary or primary aged children. You will need to attend all sessions to gain this qualification (please choose an alternative start date if you cannot attend the whole course).

About the Course

This is an introductory qualification that ALL NEW TEACHERS in the learning and skills sector must complete.

Course Aims

* To consider: roles and responsibilities of a teacher.
* To deliver and reflect on micro-teaching sessions.
* To identify principles of learning, teaching, assessment and evaluation.
* To develop communication and inter-personal skills.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements. However, the nature of both the learning and assessment required for this qualification is such that candidates need reasonable literacy skills. Basic IT skills are recommended. A specialism is also necessary.

How is the course assessed?

* Assignments.
* Participation in micro-teaching sessions.
* Self and peer group evaluations.
* Completion of a learning journal.

Are there any resources to obtain?

Students will need access to a computer, writing materials and appropriate folders.
