Totton College Hosts Esso Maths Challenge 2010

The 2010 ESSO Maths Challenge for Year 10 students from local schools was recently held at Totton College. This annual event – now in its thirteenth year receives £1,000 in sponsorship from the ESSO refinery. Schools from Applemore, Hounsdown, Mountbatten, Romsey and Testwood took part and teachers from the participating schools helped with the running of the event.

Totton College Maths Challenge poster competition was run again this year to advertise the forthcoming Esso Maths Challenge. The competition is held each year and is open to Year 10 pupils from various schools in the area. It will be held on 23rd June 2010 at Totton College.

Things Looking Bright at Totton College

The recently completed Cove (Centre of Vocational Excellence) building at Totton College has moved a step closer to being greener by installing solar power. The use of panels on the Cove building roof is the latest in a number of eco friendly initiatives taken up at the college such as recycling, bikes used for travelling to and from the college and energy efficient lighting and computers.

Totton College’s Best Ever Inspection Result!

Totton College was very successful in its recent Ofsted Inspection. In the eleven grades awarded the College achieved three at ‘Outstanding’ and eight at ‘Good’.

Turn on to Baby Care

Ashleigh Light and Pruann Murray were the first Totton College students to take home and care for 'electronic babies'. The babies are programmed according to real babie's schedules and make realistic crying and cooing sounds.

Totton Sixth Form College Judged Outstanding By Ofsted

Totton College has recently passed the annual Ofsted inspection with flying colours. The colleges facilities for Sport and Performing Arts were singled out and described as outstanding. Teaching standards and results, already judged as good, have got even better since the last full inspection. Totton College is still judged outstanding in its response to education and to social inclusion. Only nine other sixth form colleges in England have been given this grading.

Totton Student Turns Life Around

Nikki Walton was having a difficult time at school. Things turned around when she was offered the opportunity to take a day a week from school and attend Totton College. Here she looked to the future and gained a vocational insight into her chosen career. Now she is studying hard for her exams and she hopes to achieve a CACHE Foundation Award in Caring for Children alongside her GSCE's.
